Teaching at FH Wien

Returning from Indonesia on Thursday morning I transferred (a first for me: transferring at Airport Amsterdam) to a plane to Vienna. The Fachhochschule Wien invited me to do a one-day course on the transformation of media. I arrived on Thursday, and later met up with Uta Russmann. It was a pleasure to meetup with you again.
On Friday I met up with the students, a sizeable group of appr 35. I had fun doing it, and the students seemed to like it too.
Never too old to learn, I was able to brush up my German language skills again.
A big thank you to the people involved in getting me to Vienna.
Only one day to go, then back to home. It’s good I still have a jet lag from getting back from Indonesia, so boarding the plane at 6:30 should not be a problem ūüôā

In Indonesia again

This Thursday I returned from a two week trip to Indonesia. The second week on Monday I performed a small workshop on online research. The day after I attended the mini symposium in Jakarta, organized by Hendriyani from the University of Indonesia.
I presented a paper in progress about the news consumption by millennials compared to other generations.
I met with some journalists (CNN (not an official subsidiary), NET). The team from NET. made a video recording interviewing me about social media and fake news during the upcoming presidential election campaign in Indonesia. Let’s see whether they will air it.
Anyhow, it was a nice trip again. Hope to be back again ūüôā

Political leadership and social media, conference at Banff, Canada

“Really Maurice” (this is me talking to myself), “the first time in Canada?” I just returned to Calgary after a couple of days in beautiful Banff in Canada. Be sure not to miss it when you’re in Canada. I was in Banff on invitation by Professor Richard Davis and Professor David Taras for the meeting on Political Leadership and Social Media. There was a nice group of colleagues from Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Germany and Switzerland. It’s really nice to meet such a fine group of people in such a nice surroundings.

The Canadians themselves are extremely nice people. Always making jokes and in for a laugh. Imagine entering Canada at the airport, the passport control official specifically requesting me to get Donald Trump to the conference and stop his Twitter rants. Then half way the conversation, he started talking Dutch, being the son of Dutch immigrants (probably after WOII in search for a better life). A real unique experience. A similar experience happened on the way to Calgary: a woman next to me in the shuttle bus turned out to be Dutch as well, having immigrated to Canada over a decade ago. The Dutch seem to be everywhere: Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Canada, the Caribbean, and I’m sure I’ve left out other countries.

Anyhow, a big thank you to Richard and David. Looking forward to continue the collaboration.

And now back to work … OK OK just a brief look at some pictures then ūüôā
